Analytical methodsThe in-house method used for identification and quantification of POPs is published by J. de Boer, Chemosphere 17, 1811-1819 (1988)
Intercalibration studiesIVM has participated successfully in QUASIMEME international intercalibration studies for POPs pesticides, DDT, and indicator PCB since 2000 (annually; here only results since 2005 are listed). The participant code changes every year.
Additional instrumentationIn addition to the listed instrumentation, IVM has LC-QQQMS (triplequad MS) for analysis of polybrominated flame retardants and perfluorinated alkyl sulphonates. The laboratory uses GCxGC (comprehensive two-dimensional GC) analysis coupled with ECD or ToF-MS for PCB/POP pesticides analysis if necessary.
Additional analytesIVM analyses ]1,000 samples per year for polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) and hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) in human blood, sediment, effluent, influent, and fish. Perfluorinate alkyl sulphonates (PFC such as PFOS and PFOA, and others) are analysed on a routine basis (surface water, fish liver, fish muscle tissue, food and animal feed, sediment).
Organisation of international intercalibrations studiesIVM organizes each year a world-wide interlab study on PFC in biota, water, and sediment.
PublicationsStaff of the laboratory has published several hundred papers. The list of publication and reprints can be obtained from the laboratory upon request.
